On April 20, 2005, the President signed into law sweeping changes to the current bankruptcy law. A majority of these changes will go into effect on October 17, 2005. For those who are considering bankruptcy, it is important to know the date the new law becomes effective. Those who file before October 17, 2005 will be under the existing law.
